Dichterliebe

The staging of this performance, which involves a singer and an accompanist, makes comprehensive use of visual elements, thus challenging the traditional form of this kind of performance in which the singer merely stands on stage and sings a series of songs.

“Dichterliebe” tells an ambiguous romantic and sarcastic love story, and uses adapted digital materials to sustain and extend the story. The digital materials are an element of the overall performance and are used to support the story, sometimes by directly narrating, sometimes by merely commenting. As a special feature, the digital element is purposefully underplayed so that it appears naturally significant rather than predominant and spectacular.

In respect to this part of the project, the Danish National Opera and CAVI have thus deliberately chosen to create a public performance that insists on a safe artistic and technical approach, rather than to break new ground in the use of technological possibilities.

The performance opened in October 2004 at the Aarhus Concert Hall (Musikhuset i Århus).
